If there’s one destination that is popular among kids and adults in Aklan, that would be the home of the famous Precious Moments collectibles.
The Sampaguita Gardens Resort, Inc. or simply called as Sampaguita Gardens is a 2.6-hectare resort located at New Washington, Aklan. It’s only 15 minutes away from Kalibo Airport or 30 minutes away from Kalibo town proper and is a known destination where it feels like Christmas the whole year round!
The Precious Moments artwork is known for its signature teardrop eyes of the characters. The creator behind such artwork is American artist Samuel John Butcher who also owns the Precious Moments Park in Carthage, Missouri.
The Sampaguita Gardens is recognized as a landmark in Aklan. An entrance fee of only Php 50.00 per adult and Php 30.00 per child age 3 to 12 years old is collected upon entering. What’s good about it? You can use the entrance coupon to pay for food or other fees to the museum and mansion.
Why the name Sampaguita? It was chosen because of 3 reasons:
- Sampaguita is said to be the national flower of the Philippines
- Sam was fascinated by children who sold sampaguitas in the streets of Metro Manila
- Lastly, it bore the first 3 letters of his name… SAMpaguita.
Did you know that aside from the Jojo’s Christmas Cottage, it also has 48 rooms and suites where you can spend the night? There are also restaurants, spa and fitness center, swimming pools and many others. Though some areas are no longer well maintained, it can still be used by guests.

How to Get There
From Manila, you can fly to Kalibo (estimated cost of Php3,000++, round trip, one hour). From Kalibo Airport, you can ride a tricycle and ask to be dropped off at your destination. If coming from Boracay/Caticlan, ride a van to Kalibo (estimated cost of Php100-200, two hours).
From Kalibo Airport, you can ride a multicab (Php13++, 15 mins) or a tricycle (Php15++, 1 hour) going to New Washington.
